How to change file permissions in cPanel

Step 1: Log in to your cPanel

Step 2: Click  on “File manager”  under the section ” FILES’

Step 3:  You can change permission directly by clicking here.

Step 4:   Or  You can change it alternatively by clicking ‘ Permissions ‘ button.

Step 5: Select the permission you want to assign and click change. The new permission level is saved and the display updated to show the modified file.

Note: The defaults permission for a folder is 755 and for a file is 644. But to ensure maximum security, we recommend any PHP scripts should be chmod 600 at the very least. Any PHP scripts that contain important information, such as MySQL database connection information should be chmod 400. By Default these files are likely permissioned to 644 which will allow global read access to the file by any user on the system.
